Project Overview

The Empowerment and Capacity Development of Self-Employed, Micro, Small and Medium Scale Entrepreneurs project supports producers across the Southern Province by developing the quality, production capacity and markets of their products.
The project aims to increase entrepreneurial income and contribute to economic and social development through technical training, access to new technology, business support and capacity development.

Objectives

Increase the income of micro, small and medium-scale producers by improving product quality, production capacity and market opportunities.
Implement programmes and vocational courses to build and strengthen women’s entrepreneurship.
Conduct training programmes on identifying and developing short-term, medium-term and long-term value-added products.
Provide new technology to people engaged in producing these products.
Improve household productivity to strengthen the economy and eradicate rural poverty.
Increase the consumption of local products.
Increase the consumption of local products within the province.
Generate direct and indirect employment by addressing fundamental business problems.

Project Benefits

Self-employed individuals and micro, small and medium-scale entrepreneurs operating within the Southern Province who meet the project’s eligibility requirements.

Eligibility Requirements:

01. Business Registration

The business must be registered.

02. Business Location

The business must be established within the Southern Province.

03. Operating History

Information must be submitted confirming that business activities have continued for at least three years.

04. Employees’ Provident Fund

If the business has employees, EPF must be paid for those employees, or the business must be registered with the Employees’ Provident Fund.

05. Accurate Application Information

All information submitted in the application must be true.

Methodology

Beneficiaries are selected through Grama Niladharis and Economic Development, Entrepreneurship and Field Officers.
The selection process operates under the guidance of the Southern Provincial Development Authority and the direct supervision of the Divisional Secretaries.
Selected entrepreneurs receive support in the specified areas, subject to the eligibility requirements, the 50% contribution basis and the maximum support limit of LKR 100,000. The programme also includes capacity development, provision of facilities and follow-up.

Contribution Basis & Support

Facilities are provided on a 50% contribution basis, subject to a maximum of LKR 100,000.

Arrangements will be made to provide benefits to participating entrepreneurs on three occasions.
